Test takers may not be completely honest in their responses. Therefore, an attempt to measure reliability of responses is made on the Multiple Intelligences Picture Test. For example, detecting defensiveness, malingering or careless or random responding. Validity score helps to assess the accuracy of each test takers responses. Validity score can show how accurate the test is, as well as to what degree responses may have been distorted.
Multiple Intelligences Collision:
It takes place when the test taker attempts to present himself in a favorable light. Test taker who scores high on two or more multiple intelligences try to present himself in the most positive way. Sometimes, he creates positive or negative impression by recording all likes or all dislikes. The test taker who scores low on the MIPT is trying to appear worse than he really is. He may be in severe psychological distress, or he may be giving responses without paying attention to what the instructions say.
There are differences in the way that men and women think in several ways across the eight intelligences.
1.Linguistic-Verbal Intelligences: Anthropologist Margaret Mead asserted that in every society she studied, women surpassed men in linguistic behaviour. In psychological studies infant females tend to “vocalise” their excitement more consistently than males. However, Stanford researcher Eleanor Maccoby suggest that females don’t show superior performance on verbal skills until around age eleven.
Furthermore, there is clear evidence that males are far more likely to experience specific linguistic difficulties such as stuttering and reading and writing disabilities.
2.Logical-Mathematical Intelligences: For logical-mathematical intelligence the situation appears reversed. On average males appear to have an advantage in logical-mathematical intelligence at least with respect to higher mathematics. John Hopkines University Researchers Camilla Benbow and Julian Stanley studied the performance of thousands of gifted high school students on the math section of the Scholastic Aptitude Test and discovered that the higher the score, the more likely it was that the test taker was a male.
3.Musical Intelligence: When we look at musical intelligence, the evidence is similarly mixed. On tests of pitch and rhythm, no significant sex differences have been found by researchers.
4.Spatial-Visual Intelligences: According to Jo Durden Smith and Diane Desimone, authors of Sex and Brain, “Males are better at maps, mazes, and maths. Regarding Spatial Intelligences, it appears that from adolescence on there is a relatively clear and consistent advantage among males in spatial-visual skills.
5.Bodily-Kinaesthetic Intelligence: In the area of bodily-kinaesthetic intelligence, no clear advantages for males or females are apparent. Studies done with boys and girls aged two to eighteen years at the Youth Sports Institute at Michigan State University indicate that boys outperform girls in test of strength, speed, and agility while females showed superiority in muscle flexibility. Students of McGuinness observed men and women learning new dance step. All the women learned the sequences quickly, but many of the men had great difficulty with movements.
6. Interpersonal Intelligences: Howard psychologist Carol Gillijan suggests women have fundamental interpersonal attributes that have been neglected by developmental researchers.
7. Intrapersonal Intelligences: According to Howard Gardner, intrapersonal intelligence is the ability to make fine distinctions in one’s inner emotional life. Psychotherapist Lillian Rubin in her book Intimate Strangers suggests that it is these very intrapersonal characteristics that men have so much difficulty with when going through therapy.
8. Naturalist Intelligence: As far as naturalist intelligence is concerned, there is no clear advantage for males over females. The evidence is mixed. The results reported above should be interpreted with caution. There is controversy whether these sex differences are biological or cultural in nature. Your profile of intelligences differs from others remains a fact and this may create more opportunities for you in future in the fields of education and careers.
